Environmental energy technologies

The meeting on environmental energy technologies was held October 10, 2018 in the Aula Magna of the Valle Giulia Faculty of Architecture, with the participation of all the members of the university community and numerous experts from research institutions and the world of business .
Michael Magri presented Tere Group and its activities, especially the production of biofuels by seaweed, in collaboration with University of Modena.
In the conference participated also Deputy Minister M.I.U.R. Lorenzo Fioramonti, Magnificent Rector Eugenio Gaudio, and of the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Anna Maria Giovenale, as well as that of professor Livio De Santoli, delegate of the Rector for Energy and Building Policies.
Tere Group presents the new technologies

On May 24, 2018 Tere Group was invited with all its staff to present to the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg and the King and Queen of the Netherlands the technological innovations for reducing pollution, especially products derived from algae, such as biofuels and the third generation Biodegradable and Compostable Bioplastics.

Paris World Efficency e Nuremberg Biogas
From 12 to 14 December 2017 Teregroup participated simultaneously in Paris World Efficency, event with the participation of fifty heads of state, and in Nuremberg Biogas. In Paris we presented, in collaboration with the State of Luxembourg, the new opportunities for reducing CO2 emissions through the use of microalgae; in Nuremberg he showed the possibilities of combining a Microalgae production plant through the heat and CO2 dispersed in the environment by Biogas.
New research center in Modena
We have completely designed the new Modena headquarters, where the offices in Via Giardini and Via del Tirassegno will be gathered in a single structure. The headquarters, on two floors, integrates the administrative and commercial offices, the laboratories and the control structure of the productive greenhouse which will be connected by a platform roof.

Festival For the Earth for a sustainable future
Michael Magri was invited to the convention Festival for the Earth - sustainable visions in art and science, held November 10, 2017 in Montecarlo. During the event the opportunities of the future of our planet were discussed together with internationally renowned guests, such as the Pulitzer Prize Kenneth Weiss, the Goldman Ignace Shops award, Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, present with a video message, and many others. Among the public many guests, including HSH Prince Albert II and Italian Ambassador Dr. Cristiano Gallo.
At the Trieste Next conference, which took place from 21 to 23 September 2017, Michael Magri spoke to a large audience about the use of algae and microalgae for the production of biofuels. On our Vimeo channel you can watch the video of the event.

Conferences in Phoenix and Hannover
In November, Tere Group participated as an exhibitor at the congress of Algae Biomass Organization in Phoenix, United States, where it presented, in partnership with other Italian producers, the new technology for the cultivation and extraction of microalgae, a result that places our country at the vanguard in this field.
The company was also present at the Eurotier fair in Hannover, Germany, the largest international event in the world of agriculture: here it presented its new products, in particular for the nutraceutical and food sector, such as the oil that will replace palm oil and sunflower oil.
A memorable victory for algae
The United States Congress has approved a two-year budget agreement establishing a $ 35 tax incentive per tonne for carbon (CO2) captured and recycled by power plants or industrial plants via filtration systems that use algae. The bill was signed by President Trump on 9 February; this standard will be taken as a reference also in Europe.
We are confident that this policy that will benefit both parties will help accelerate the development of commercial algae-based products, support environmental objectives and build a strong foundation for the future of the algae industry.
The bill provides for a series of other approaches to the CCU to the tax credit in section 45Q Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), which was previously available only for geological storage projects and EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery). It also greatly increases the credit rate, from the previous $ 10 per ton to $ 35 per ton, extends the credit up to 12 years and expands the universe of eligible CO2 sources, including industrial and air capture systems, in addition to fossil power plants.

3D printing with biodegradable microalgae filaments
The 3D printer filaments made with microalgae has been developed at Teregroup, in cooperation with international partners. These filaments are perfectly compatible with every printer on the market.
Thanks to our technical office, Tere Group is able to make, with our 3D printer, items designed with CAD and complex non-biodegradable items.
New refinery in Ferrandina
The new refinery of Ferrandina, in the province of Matera, is specialized in green chemistry and was presented in front of many reporters and entrepreneurs. It will convert Tere Group algal oil into biodiesel. Among the speakers, Senator Saverio D’Amelio, Alderman to Agricultural and Forestry Policy Luca Braia, Alderman to Development Policy Raffaele Liberal, and many others.
Paris climate change conference:
it's a turning point for biofuels producers, too
Tere Group technology to cut emissions in power plants (especially in coal plants) was presented at COP21 Paris Climate Conference. The fumes are captured by a special hood and channelled through a series of vertical cylinders containing a specific alga able to convert emissions in oxygen. This is a great opportunity for our planet, a low-cost natural solution: a standard-sized plant is able to convert as much emissions in oxygen as a 400 hectares wood.
Test Biodiesel B10
On Friday 27 November 2015 we tested the Biodiesel 10 at the University of Modena, in the Enzo Ferrari Department, on a 180 hp turbo VM engine normally installed on the Jeep Cherokee.
Mineral diesel fuel with 10% of algae biodiesel was used as fuel, according to the European regulations that will enter into force from 2018. The result obtained from the tests was an important reduction in emissions, in particular over 2000 engine revs. This additive can help the planet a lot, so we expect an important response from the rulers around the world gathered in Paris at COP21.
Tere Group at the ABO algal biomass congress
Tere Group, the only representative for Italy, was present at the ABO algal biomass congress in Washington. There was a great deal of discussion regarding the great chance offered from the American government to use algal plants as bio filter systems to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

A law on biofuels,
compulsory quotas have been determined until 2022
Ordinance No. 10 ottobre 2014 of the Minister of Economy subject was published on the October 27th Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 250: “Updating of conditions, criteria and detailed rules for the implementation of the use of biofuels, including the most advanced”. The Ordinance established that biofuels mandatory rates will be up to 5% of the release for consumption of gas and diesel in 2015, up to 5,5% in 2016, up to 6,5% in 2017, up to 7,5% in 2018, up to 9% in 2019, up to 10% between 2020 and 2022. Among the mentioned biofuels there are also biomethane and biopropane. 2018 innovation is that a part of the mandatory rate will be covered with “advanced biofuels”, obtained from wastes as raw materials and from non-food raw materials, listed in Annex 3 to the Ordinance: the rate will account for 1,2% in 2018 and 2019, for 1,6% in 2020 and 2021 and for 2% in 2022.
Congress of algal products manufacturers
in San Diego (California)
The Algae Biomass Summit, the World Congress of algal products manufacturers was held from 29 September to 2 October, with great participation of visitors from all over the world; they paid almost $ 500 for entry. Teregroup in cooperation with Algamoil was the only italian company and attracted considerable visitors interest.
During the congress, technological and biological news for algae development were submitted. The producers got together to define algal products technical standards, in particular for establishing biofuels requirements. Tere Group research on biofuels has made it possible to define technical characteristics on diesel-power engines in series production.
More than 400 projects and searches were submitted during the congress: this is a clear indication of strong development of the sector, thanks also to the American energy department, and especially after reports the Rockefeller family had abandoned the petroleum-derived fuels sector to work with green fuels like algal fuels. Boeing was present at the congress with a model of the new 787 dreamliner that will be able to work also with algal fuels.
Tere Group conference
at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
The Algamoil and Tere Group conference was held on 25 June 2014 at the University of Modena to present the new dual fuel, an innovative solution for the reduction of CO2 and particulate emissions from internal combustion engines. The event has been organised in cooperation with Unimore Enzo Ferrari departement, Hpe, Stm and Algamoil and co-financed by Crmo foundation.
The conference started the project that aims to check all experimental data presented at the 68th Conference of the Italian Thermal Machines Engineering Association on 11 September 2013 by Professors Enrico Mattarelli and Carlo Rinaldini from University of Modena and by Professor Valeri Golovitchev from Chalmers University of Technology.
The project aims to test methane-fuelled and algal biodiesel-fuelled diesel engines: the ignition of the so-called dual-fuel engine occurs through a port fuel injection of biodiesel and preblended methane.
It is planned to test also methane produced by biogas plants: this will allow us to have 100% italian biofuel. A strong delegation of interested Italian and international investors was present at the conference.
The conference was introduced by Professor Giuseppe Cantore, tenured professor at DIEF (Engineering Department Ingegneria Enzo Ferrari), celebrating 100 years of Maserati. Later on Professor Enrico Matterelli took the floor presenting the research made on dual-fuel and the expected results shown in the table.
At the end Professor Carlo Rinaldini gave an overview of the state of the art in the testing of diesel engines fuelled with Algamoil algal biodiesel recently presented in Detroit.
At the end of the conference guests were invited to visit Algamoil and Tere Group laboratories and algae fuel production plants.

in compliance with to the new European regulations
Teregroup is the first company in Europe to test biodiesel from algae on standard cars. At the "Enzo Ferrari" Department of Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the fuel was tested on a series engine without any modification with surprising results: the same power and torque of the commercial diesel, greatly reduced particulate.
Detroit automotive conference
At the Detroit automotive conference, professor Rinaldini of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia presented the algae biodiesel from Tere Group and Algamoil:
With the decreasing availability of conventional fossil fuels, their rising costs and their contribution to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the environment, it has become necessary to research alternative fuels for engines. Biodiesel is one of the best option to fulfill this demand but there is an increasing motivation to limit the production of fuel from eatable resources. In this scenario Biodiesel from Algae appears a promising solution for partially or totally substitution of fossil fuel in Diesel engines.
This study is dedicated to the engine application of blend of Biodiesel manufactured by transerification reaction from Microalgae and Diesel Oil (B20). Experiments were carried out on a 4-cylinder, 4-stoke naturally aspirated Diesel Engine whose performance and emission where measured on a wide range of operating points. Results obtained with B20 has been compared with ones obtained using commercial Diesel Oil. It was found that B20 leads to a very small decrease of performance limited to higher loads while slight differences have been found in engine pollutant emissions. Regarding the last issue, one of the most interesting results has been the reduction of soot emission measured supplying the engine with the B20 mixture.
